Its official elevation is 2, 174 feet, and the valley encompasses nearly 600 square miles of land. Mountains surround the region and reach their highest elevation – 11, 918 feet – at Mt. Charleston.
The cost of living in Las Vegas is lower than in many comparably-sized cities, there is no state personal income tax and property taxes are moderate.
The Las Vegas valley boasts an extraordinary quality of life with its wonderful year-round climate, beautiful communities, access to great entertainment and fine dining, cultural and recreational opportunities. While more well-known for its world-class performances on the Strip, Las Vegas and nearby communities have fine and cultural arts offerings, including performing and visual arts.

Recreational opportunities are almost limitless in and around the Las Vegas valley. Within a very short distance, enthusiasts can boat, water ski, jet ski and swim at Lake Mead Recreation Area. Hiking and rock climbing are available at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, snow skiing or boarding at Mt. Charleston and riding ATVs or horseback through the desert.
