Dominican Republic Dreams Punta Cana

Pros

  • Pretty white-sand beach is sans crowds
  • Large, pristine pool with wait service
  • Daily entertainment includes dance lessons and movies on the beach

Cons

  • Only Preferred Club rooms include free Wi-Fi

Bottom Line

This upscale resort sits on a pretty white-sand beach that is filled with fun water sports and sans annoying crowds. Perhaps due to slightly higher rates, the Dreams lacks a raucous spring break crowd and instead attracts families and couples with its large, pristine pool, lovely spa, kids’ club, and daily entertainment. Another major draw is the above-average food, which can be hard to come by at all-inclusives in the D.R. An extra fee for Wi-Fi (it is free for Preferred Club members) seems pesky, but the Dreams is nonetheless a great pick in Punta Cana.

Scene

This relaxed, upscale option attracts families and couples.

The smaller, more upscale version of its sister property 40 minutes north, this Dreams nonetheless features a long list of amenities spread across sprawling grounds. The sheer size of the property helps to maintain a tranquil vibe, as does the fact that the resort lacks the raucous spring break party crowd, perhaps due to the slightly higher rates. Couples and families can be found roaming the grounds, where manicured lawns run along palm tree-lined pathways that connect the rooms to the resort’s beach, pool, and many restaurants and facilities.

Location

On a pretty, white-sand beach in Bavaro

The Dreams Palm Beach sits on a lovely white-sand beach and is surrounded by other resorts - but not much else. More centrally located than its sister property 40 minutes north, this resort is a destination unto itself, and most guests do not leave the property until the end of their visit to the D.R.

The Punta Cana airport is about a 25-minute, $35 USD cab ride from the resort. Guests will need to drive about 15 minutes to find any nearby nightlife or shopping.

Rooms

Modern rooms have updated amenities and sunny balconies.

Rooms at the Dreams are modern and upscale. All feature balconies or terraces, sleek bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and iPod docks (although Wi-Fi requires an additional fee for those not staying in Club Preferred rooms). Mini-fridges stocked with beer, sodas, waters, and snacks, name-brand liquor, coffeemakers, laptop-sized safes, irons and ironing boards, plush robes, and nice bathroom extras such as incense, sunscreen, and toothbrushes and toothpaste also come standard.

Staying in a Club Preferred room gets guests plenty of perks. Not only are rooms more spacious, with upgraded minibar items and toiletries, but guests also receive free in-room Wi-Fi and have special access to a Club Preferred pool, a modern lounge serving snacks and cocktails, and a designated VIP area at the beach with daybeds.
